Basics

Public areas and places with different original purposes (such as museums, hospitals, schools, military sites etc.) are essential to film productions.
Filming in these locations is usually difficult but not impossible. It requires major coordination processes, which is why sufficient lead times should be allowed for.
In difficult cases, it is recommended to allocate a person on site who will take over the supervision of the film work. The additional costs should be taken into account when renting the motif. Some film productions also allot security guards.

Tip:
Communication is key!
An open conversation to find suitable solutions for all parties involved is always the right way to ensure successful filming.

Filming in schools

Filming in state schools needs to be approved by the responsible district school authority as it needs the agreement of the school itself. Please note: Even if the school agrees to the filming, the school authority still needs to approve it.

In Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, the district councilor Mrs. Schmitt-Schmelz is the first point of contact in regards to applications for filming permits at schools. Companies are asked to send their applications by e-mail to: cw330000@ charlottenburg-wilmersdorf.de ). The district councilor Mrs. Schmitt-Schmelz has noted that no school is excluded from filming, but that the filming projects will be checked for practicability beforehand.

Filming in private schools must be approved by the respective institution.
Here is a list of private schools in Berlin and Brandenburg.

Filming in sports facilities

An addition to the agreement with the respective location, filming in public sports facilities must be approved by the responsible sports office of the district (Berlin) or the county (Brandenburg).

Filming in housing associations

In the case of housing associations, a distinction must be made between municipal and private.
